Why do conservatives fight lies, while liberals embrace them?

Conservatives lie as much as liberals. But once, the lie is found out, the response is completely different. How many Ted Kennedy's or Robert Byrd's hold office in the republican party and are supported by conservatives? They have been ousted like Duke Cunningham. Liberals like them even more because they are victims of morality.
