Transportation from Whitestone, New York to Times square ?

I will be in Extendedstay hotel in Laguardia area (18-30 Whitestone Expy, NY) for one night. I hope to see the Times square at night. What is the best way to get there using public transportation ? What is the cost of a cab ? Thank you
