Gap Year in France?

I am going to be a senior in high school this year. In college, I plan to study languages and art history. I have studied french and progressed enormously from private lessons with a teacher from France. She has been encouraging me to apply to universities in France. I think I would rather spend my undergrad years in the US, but am now considering a gap year in France. I would spend a year in France taking cles at the Sorbonne and perfecting my French. I think it would be a life-changing experience! Has anyone ever done this? What was your experience?
